What’s changed in Findie

IRD, ACC and KiwiSaver rules move, and Findie changes with them. Each version below lists what changed in the rules, your AI toolkit and My Findie. Your toolkit and My Findie both show which version you have.

Findie is still a prototype. These are the changes made so far while it’s being tested. The rules behind it haven’t been reviewed by an accountant yet.

Version 2026.10.26.426 October 2026
  • The Findie website now shows the Findie logo on its browser tab and in your bookmarks, instead of a placeholder icon.
Version 2026.10.26.326 October 2026
  • My Findie now shows the Findie logo on its browser tab and in your bookmarks, so it's easier to find among your open tabs.
Version 2026.10.26.226 October 2026
  • Testers can now try Findie on a sample business: set it up as Kira, a fictional sole trader, then use your AI and My Findie on his receipts, bank statement and invoices, and check the results against an answer key.
Version 2026.10.26.126 October 2026
  • The tester page no longer quotes a survey length.
Version 2026.10.2626 October 2026
  • If you're registered for GST, your AI now sends you to My Findie's GST return walkthrough when you file, rather than adding up your figures itself. Re-download your toolkit and paste it in again to pick this up.
  • The Rules Reference now comes as up to four files (GST; income tax; expenses and records; ACC and KiwiSaver) instead of one per topic, so it fits in a free ChatGPT project. The content hasn't changed. Remove the separate rules files from your Project or Gem and from your Findie folder's Rules Reference, and add the new ones.
Version 2026.10.25.1025 October 2026
  • My Findie now walks you through your GST return in myIR, box by box, with the figure from your own records for each one. Find it on the GST tab.
  • The Rules Reference has a new file explaining what goes in each box of the GST return.
Version 2026.10.25.925 October 2026
  • Once a GST period ends, My Findie now shows it as "Ready to file" at the top of the GST tab, with what you'd owe or be refunded and the due date, until that date passes. Before, it skipped straight to the new, empty period. The Overview shows the same figure and due date.
Version 2026.10.25.825 October 2026
  • A new chat with your AI no longer asks the same things again. It keeps your standing answers (which vendors are personal, what you call each bank account, which statements you've been through) in a new file in your Findie folder, findie-notes.md, and reads it at the start of every chat. It also stops offering first-time setup once your ledger has rows. Re-download your toolkit and paste it in again to pick this up.
Version 2026.10.25.725 October 2026
  • With a working code but no answers on this device, the Hub now says so and how to load them, instead of asking for your code again.
  • The toolkit update in Restore or update now says it doesn't include My Findie, and where to get that.
  • In the home office and vehicle calculators, a greyed-out "Use this result" now says what's still needed.
Version 2026.10.25.625 October 2026
  • If you worked out your home office or vehicle percentage before 8 October, Findie no longer assumes you use the square-metre or kilometre rate. Your AI now checks your ledger for clues and asks which method you use before logging those costs. Module 6 shows "method not recorded" until you open the calculator and choose one. Re-download your toolkit and paste it in again to pick this up.
  • If your ledger's earlier rows were logged under a different home office or vehicle method, or a different percentage, from the one in your setup, your AI now tells you and asks which is right, instead of quietly copying the old rows.
Version 2026.10.25.525 October 2026
  • In My Findie, File receipts now spots a file that's identical to one already in your Receipts folder, or to another in the same batch, and holds it back so the same receipt isn't filed twice. Choose File anyway if you do want a second copy.
Version 2026.10.25.425 October 2026
  • The Hub's Your AI toolkit tab has a new "Day to day" card: how to do receipts, invoices, bank statements and review once you're set up, for the AI you chose above it. Using Claude in Cowork? The steps are written for it, with each message ready to copy. Steps for other AIs are coming soon.
  • On How it works, the step that depends on your AI now shows its two ways side by side: usually paid plans in the desktop app work in your Findie folder, and usually free plans, or any AI on a website, read what you attach.
Version 2026.10.25.325 October 2026
  • How it works has a new section, "How each job works". It goes step by step through receipts, invoices you've issued, bank statements and review, both for an AI that can work in your Findie folder and for one that only reads what you attach.
Version 2026.10.25.225 October 2026
  • If you've added ledger.csv or income.csv to your Project's or Gem's own files, your AI now tells you that copy goes out of date and asks you to attach a fresh one to the chat instead. The Hub's set-up steps say the same. Re-download your toolkit and paste it in again to pick this up.
Version 2026.10.25.125 October 2026
  • Your AI now logs business expenses from a bank statement, not just income. It checks your ledger first so nothing is logged twice, works out the GST as an estimate, and marks each row "Receipt needed". Interest and bank fees need no receipt: the statement is the evidence. When the receipt turns up, your AI links it to that row instead of adding another. Re-download your toolkit and paste it in again to pick this up.
  • In My Findie you can now edit a row's Filename on the Review tab, to link a receipt to a row yourself. The Receipts tab lists the rows from bank statements that still need a receipt, and no longer counts interest and bank fees as missing one.
Version 2026.10.2525 October 2026
  • A supplier invoice you pay after its date is now logged on the day you paid it, not the invoice date, so its GST goes in the right return. If your AI can't see when you paid, it asks.
  • Your AI no longer makes up names for receipts. If a receipt isn't in your Receipts folder yet, it asks you to file it with My Findie's File receipts first, so every receipt follows the same naming. Re-download your toolkit and paste it in again to pick up both changes.
Version 2026.10.24.124 October 2026
  • On phones, the outlined example in "See it in action" now follows your swipe, so it's always the one in front of you.
Version 2026.10.2424 October 2026
  • The home page is tidier on phones. The picture at the top shows two example cards instead of four, so you can see the plant. In "See it in action", the steps and examples now run to the edge of the screen, with dots underneath showing there's more to swipe through. There's less empty space between sections on every screen size.
Version 2026.10.2324 October 2026
  • My Findie now shows whether your Findie folder is connected: a green tick and "Folder connected", or an amber "!" and "No folder connected". Hover over the tick to see which folder you're working from.
Version 2026.10.2224 October 2026
  • When you hide columns in My Findie's Review or Income table, the columns you're showing now spread out to fill the table, instead of leaving an empty strip down the right.
  • The site header and footer now line up with the home page's content. On the home page, the notes drawn over the "setting up your AI" example no longer cover the screen's own text.
Version 2026.10.2123 October 2026
  • Seven of the examples in "See it in action" on the home page are now real screens from Findie and My Findie, filled in with a made-up test business: a GST question, the home office calculator, your summary, setting up your AI, and My Findie's Income, Review and GST position. Open one to see it close to full size. The folder, AI project and chat examples are still mock-ups, and say so.
Version 2026.10.2023 October 2026
  • The home page has a new layout. It uses more of a wide screen and sets out the four steps side by side: two to get set up, then two you repeat. It also answers two new questions: whether Findie connects to your bank (it doesn't) and whether it files anything for you (it doesn't).
  • "See it in action" on the home page now has three examples for each step. Pick a step, then click an example to see it full size. The examples now match what Findie does: your AI checks each entry with you before it logs it, reads bank statements for income, and your starter kit includes your calendar file.
  • A small plant now grows down the left of the home page as you scroll, and the top of the page has a new illustration. If your device is set to reduce motion, both stay still.
Version 2026.10.1918 October 2026
  • My Findie now remembers your Findie folder. After a refresh it reopens where you left off, or asks you to click Reopen once to confirm. It's remembered in this browser only, and a private window still asks each time.
Version 2026.10.1818 October 2026
  • The Receipts tab now says how to log receipts you've filed but not yet added to your ledger: ask your Findie AI chat to log them, or attach the files there. If your AI gives you rows to paste instead, paste them into Review, Add rows.
Version 2026.10.1711 October 2026
  • My Findie now notices if rows go missing from ledger.csv or income.csv. It keeps a copy of each file as it last saw it, in a Backups folder inside your Findie folder. If rows that were there last time have gone (for example, your AI saved an older copy of the file), it lists them and asks whether to put them back or leave them out.
  • You can now split an expense into two rows on the Review tab. Use it for a receipt that's part business and part personal, or covers two categories. Enter the amount this row keeps; a new row gets the rest, with the GST shared in the same proportion. Both rows go back to Needs review.
  • Before the first GST question, the guided setup now asks you to check your AI's data settings. Your records go to your AI provider under its own terms, so turn off training on your chats before you share anything. You'll only be asked once.
  • The examples of My Findie on the home page now match the app: the Vehicle category, all five statuses including Personal, and the "Current filing period" title.
Version 2026.10.169 October 2026
  • Entertainment is now claimed at 50%, as the rules require. Until now My Findie counted the full GST and cost of a client meal, so your GST credit and expense totals were too high. Choosing Entertainment now sets Business-Use % to 50, and a note on Review and GST position lists any entertainment rows still at 100% so you can change them (to 50, or 0 for a meal on your own). Fixing those rows will lower the GST you claim and your expenses for the year.
  • Your AI toolkit now logs client and business meals at 50% business use, with the amount and GST still exactly as on the receipt. Re-download it and paste it in again to pick this up.
  • The entertainment Rules Reference file now explains that My Findie applies the 50% on each row.
Version 2026.10.159 October 2026
  • My Findie's Income tab now shows your income table first, with the document matching below it. Files in Invoices or Statements that aren't linked to an income row are listed as "other files", folded away by default, since most are bank statements or old invoices and nothing needs doing.
Version 2026.10.149 October 2026
  • My Findie's Vendor rules panel is easier to read: the fields stand out on white, the columns line up under headings, and Forget is a plain link.
Version 2026.10.139 October 2026
  • In My Findie, the Undo after answering "Use this from now on?" now appears just above the row you confirmed, so it no longer covers the next row while you work down the list.
Version 2026.10.129 October 2026
  • The Hub now remembers your licence key on this device, so you don't have to enter it every visit.
  • Updates to your AI toolkit or My Findie now appear under Restore or update in the Hub, with the download first. A dot on that tab and a line on Overview tell you when there's one waiting.
Version 2026.10.119 October 2026
  • My Findie stops asking "Use this from now on?" for a vendor you've already classified more than one way, like a power company that bills electricity, mobile and broadband at different business-use %. It also stops offering to swap a vendor's remembered rule when your rows for that vendor are in more than one category, so the rule no longer flips back and forth. A change in business use alone, like fuel going from 30% to 25%, still asks. For any other vendor whose bills vary, choose "Don't ask for this vendor".
  • Answered the prompt by mistake? An Undo appears where you clicked for a few seconds. The new Vendor rules panel on the Review tab lists every remembered vendor, lets you change or forget a rule, and turns the question back on for a vendor. Learn from my ledger has moved in there.
Version 2026.10.108 October 2026
  • Already owned your vehicle before you used it in the business, or before you registered for GST? Add it on My Findie's GST tab. If it cost over $10,000 excluding GST, My Findie works out the GST you can now claim on it and the yearly checks after that.
  • Not GST-registered? You can now enter selling your vehicle on My Findie's Annual summary, which works out the income tax on the sale.
Version 2026.10.98 October 2026
  • My Findie now tracks the GST on a vehicle you buy for the business. Log the receipt with the new category "Vehicle purchase": its GST is claimed at your business use, it isn't counted as an expense, and if it cost over $10,000 excluding GST the GST tab shows each year's check IRD needs, and any adjustment, in the right return.
  • Sold the vehicle? Enter the sale on My Findie's GST tab. It works out the GST on the sale and, if you claim the vehicle at actual cost, the income tax on it in your Annual summary.
  • You can now set your vehicle's business use for each year on My Findie's Annual summary, when your logbook changes. Depreciation and the GST check use that year's figure.
Version 2026.10.88 October 2026
  • The vehicle calculator no longer tells you to see an accountant for a vehicle over $10,000. If you're GST-registered, it explains what claiming GST on one involves, and that you can choose not to claim GST on a mainly private vehicle so there's nothing to track. Your AI explains the same.
  • Your starter kit's Rules Reference now includes the home office and vehicle files when they apply to you. They were missing from earlier downloads.
Version 2026.10.78 October 2026
  • On a smaller screen, the top of a long calculator, like the vehicle calculator, could end up out of reach. You can now always scroll back up to it.
Version 2026.10.68 October 2026
  • If you claim your vehicle at actual cost, My Findie's Annual summary now shows its depreciation for the year, worked out from what you entered in the vehicle calculator, and includes it in your expenses and tax estimate. It's an estimate. To change it, rerun the calculator and download the update pack; your ledger isn't touched.
Version 2026.10.58 October 2026
  • Parking and tolls: on the kilometre rate they're covered by the rate, so your AI no longer flags them. On actual cost, parking and tolls for a business trip, like a client meeting, are now claimed in full rather than at your business-use %.
Version 2026.10.48 October 2026
  • The home office calculator now offers both of IRD's methods: actual cost (a share of each household bill, including its GST) or the square-metre rate. If you share household costs, it asks what share you pay. If you work in a shared space, like the dining table, it now works out your share from the space and the hours you use it for business, instead of sending you to an accountant.
  • Your AI now treats household bills according to your home office method. On the square-metre rate it logs power, insurance, phone and internet without claiming them, because the rate already covers them. Before, it could claim them twice.
  • The vehicle calculator now offers actual cost as well as the kilometre rate, works out your vehicle's depreciation, and lets you claim up to 25% business use while you start a logbook. It warns you that the choice is permanent for that vehicle, and keeps to the method you've already used if you've claimed it before.
Version 2026.10.37 October 2026
  • My Findie now claims GST on a part-business expense at its business-use share, not in full, matching how it already works out your income-tax deduction. If you've confirmed rows at less than 100%, your GST position may go down. This includes GST periods you've already filed and archived: if an earlier return claimed too much, a small over-claim can usually be corrected in your next GST return, but check with an accountant first.
  • My Findie now counts an expense or payment dated the last day of a GST period in that period. Before, it could be left out of the period's GST figure.
  • You can mark a row in My Findie as Personal. It stays in your ledger, but it's left out of every total. Your AI toolkit knows about it too, and won't mark rows Personal for you.
  • In My Findie, "Hide finished rows" lets you hide Confirmed, Archived and Personal rows so what's left to review is at the top. A line above the table always tells you how many rows are hidden. The "Show key" button is now called "Status info".
  • My Findie's Review and Income tabs can now show just this GST period or the last one, worked out from your GST settings.
Version 2026.10.27 October 2026
  • In My Findie, the "Always" and "Just this once" buttons now sit right under the Status you just changed, so there's less to reach for.
  • My Findie has its own download on your Hub's Downloads tab, with the latest version number, so it's easy to find when it's updated.
Version 2026.10.16 October 2026
  • When you confirm a row in My Findie, the question about remembering that vendor now appears right under the row, with "Always" and "Just this once". You no longer lose your place in a long ledger to answer it, and you can carry on without answering.
  • Rows in My Findie's Review and Income tables now stay the same height after you edit them, and every column lines up.
Version 2026.105 October 2026
  • If you mention taking on staff, your AI now says plainly, once, that Findie doesn't cover employer obligations such as PAYE, holiday pay, and employer KiwiSaver and ACC. It keeps helping with your own GST and income tax, and doesn't raise it for contractors you pay on invoice.
  • Your AI reminds you once to check its data settings, and your Hub links to the settings page for Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini.
  • On a shared computer, you can now clear your answers from the browser in your Hub.
  • Your toolkit and My Findie now show a version number, so you can tell whether you have the latest.

Once live, this page draws only from changes that have actually been reviewed and built in — not a running list of every source Findie watches. If something you rely on changes and it isn’t here yet, that means it’s still being reviewed, not that it’s been missed.
